WHAT IS MEDICAL ANTHROPOLOGY?

Medical anthropology is the social science that studies the relationship between culture, medicine, and healing.  It is a discrete career path for anthropologists who want to work specifically on resolutions to health problems (Joralemon 2010:88).

To explain the fields of applied medical anthropology and critical medical anthropology and their relevance to "the resolution of health and healthcare problems" (Joralemon 2010:88).

PURPOSE  OF  THIS  SITE​

To explore the role of cultural competence in these two fields, with references to Anne Fadiman's book, The Spirit Catches You and You Fall Down: A Hmong Child, Her American Doctors, and the Collision of Two Cultures.
